For the third year in a row, an Osseo OEC team wins 1st place at the International Rescue and Emergency Care Association (IRECA) Basic Life Support competition. Team Sunshine is made up 2008 MGSH graduate, Stephanie Belland and 2008 OSH graduates Amanda Kaukola and Rachel Carey.

The IRECA Conference and Competition was held from June 16-21 in Beaumont, Texas. The BLS competition involves a written test and three scenarios. One scenario was set in a bathroom where a single victim had overdosed on some medications and suffers heart failure part way through the 20-minute scenario. Another scenario involved a single victim that fell off a ladder and broke his leg. A head-on crash of an all terrain vehicle (ATV) and a pickup truck made up the last scenario. The driver of the ATV was thrown onto the hood of the truck. The second victim suffered only bruises and a fractured wrist. The competitors were to provide care to the victims while also ensuring their own safety.
